We Speak NYC – Shola’s Voice

We Speak NYC is the city’s free English Language Learning program, created and managed by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in conjunction with CUNY. Our founder, Marc Lesser, was invited to direct his second We Speak episode, a TV series devoted to educating immigrants in New York about their rights. This episode, entitled Shola’s Voice, tells the story of an immigrant working at a local TV station, who finds her voice in the midst of the upcoming New York City elections. We shot the episode over the course of three weeks, building out sets for the TV station and apartments, as well as shooting exteriors in the streets of New York. It was a fantastic experience, allowing for creative collaboration across all departments with the common goal of making something that would both educate and entertain New Yorkers.

It was an incredible honor to find out that Shola’s Voice had been nominated for five Emmy awards, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Long-Form Broadcast. At the ceremony, the cast and crew reunited in our finest suits and gowns and toasted to our collective accomplishments. It was a night we won’t soon forget!

Virtual Conference

During the height of the pandemic, WebMD came to us with a unique opportunity and challenge. Lucky Tiger was tasked with producing a remote conference for a global pharmaceutical brand between four Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), each located in a different city throughout the United States. The goal was to bring them together seamlessly, so that they could converse naturally and it would appear that they were in the same room. We helped develop a virtual studio with their design team, sourced crews and green screen studios across the country, and tested various live streaming technologies to ensure everything would go off without a hitch. We brought the feeds into our NYC control room, set up a virtual green room for the client, and provided creative direction to the disparate crews and talent.

The end result was a seamless multicam broadcast that successfully integrated the talent into a virtual set that made the audience feel like they were watching four subjects in the same real space. While this project presented a unique challenge, it allowed us to explore innovative creative solutions that were both rewarding for us from a technical perspective, and extremely effective for our client.

Supertasters

Who doesn’t love a glass of wine after a long day? Or two, or three? We jumped at the opportunity to produce this incredible series by SevenFiftyDaily, which features the nation’s top sommeliers putting their skills to the test by blind tasting wines from all over the world. We can’t deny that we tried coming to our own conclusions, but quickly realized that it’s best to leave that to the real professionals.

Over a dozen sommeliers participated in the series, which we produced, shot, and edited. Viewers can follow along with the experts as they detail the wine’s look, smell, and taste, then come to a conclusion of their own to see if they got it right. Try it out for yourself on Daily.SevenFifty.com or visit SevenFifty on YouTube.

Mattel

We teamed up with Mattel and Fisher-Price to bring fun and simple DIY crafts to families around the world. From clay sculpting and science experiments, to baking and painting, these crafts proved entertaining and easy to follow (we definitely tried a few of them on our own time).

Our two-camera setup allows for full coverage of the crafting (one overhead and one straight-on shot), while integrating the products that inspired each craft. Visit Mattel, Fisher-Price, and Barbie on all social media platforms to watch and try these crafts out for yourself!

Saul Leiter VR

Saul Leiter was one of the most talented and prolific photographers in history. After his death, his home studio was preserved by the Saul Leiter Foundation, which expertly archived his work and continues to promote his legacy. We were honored and excited to produce this immersive VR experience inside the home and studio of Mr. Leiter, creating a time-capsule, which allows fans from all over the world a glimpse into the space where he lived and worked.

The above photo shows a gallery curator in Kyoto, Japan experiencing the Immersive Studio. Through the Saul Leiter Foundation, we plan to send this VR experience to galleries and exhibitions around the world.

Bruce Gilden Exhibition

We produced and shot a piece for the famed New York City photographer Bruce Gilden’s exhibition “Lost And Found” at 10 Corso Como Gallery. Transforming our equipment room into a studio, we shot an overhead flip through of his newly-released photo book. The video was then projected on a wall at the gallery during the exhibition.

Bruce Gilden’s “Lost And Found” is on display at 10 Corso Como Gallery in Lower Manhattan through May 16, 2020. For more information on the exhibition and Bruce Gilden’s work, visit 10corsocomo.nyc.

Go RVing

Lucky Tiger packed our bags and ventured to the great outdoors to shoot this spot for GoRVing. After renting an RV and driving 4 hours upstate (the route for taller vehicles is much longer, FYI), we ended up in Saugerties, NY, where we scouted a local campsite for our shoot. Our crew comprised of a mix of city-dwellers and upstate locals, who were ready to go bright and early the next morning.

The shoot itself went off without a hitch. Mother Nature was on our side, and the cast and crew exceeded all expectations. Don’t get us wrong, we love the city, but there’s nothing quite like breathing fresh country air mid-production. When all was said and done, we ended the trip with celebratory margaritas at the local Mexican joint!

The Dilemma

You know a project is going to be a hit when the entire crew has to muffle their own laughter during takes. This Scary Mommy original series is easily one of the funniest projects we’ve had the pleasure of producing. Pairing two participants together, we prompt them to discuss their views of various topics, from drinking to movies to cursing in front of kids.

And if you thought the discussions were funny, just wait til you see the challenges we’ve got planned for our participants. (You’d be surprised how many people don’t know how to open a bottle of wine!) Check out all the episodes on ScaryMommy.com.

Bluprint

Crafting has never been easier, take it from us! Bluprint came to us to produce a bunch of instructional crafting and baking videos for their website and social platforms. Teaming up with some of the most talented makers and bakers in the industry made shooting these videos a blast.

Our personal favorite moments have to be shooting the beauty shots of each project (see the image above). We love creating dioramas for these final products to live in. Check out all the crafts on mybluprint.com.
